The Special Olympics 2025 Summer Games in Stillwater brought thousands of athletes, passionate volunteers and uplifting energy to Oklahoma in May. Among those who played a pivotal role in making the event a success were four team members of Alfalfa Electric Cooperative. Alfalfa Electric’s team was represented by CHELSEY GUFFY, MATTHEW JENLINK, PATRICK LYONS and CHELSEA THOMAS. Special Olympics is a unique event celebrating the accomplishments and determination of athletes with intellectual and physical disabilities. This year, the summer games hosted more than 5,000 athletes, making it one of the largest gatherings yet. It’s a platform where athletes showcase their skills, build confidence and inspire everyone around them. Guffy has now volunteered at the Special Olympics for four consecutive years. Her passion for the athletes and their journeys continues to grow with each event. “The joy and determination you see on the athletes’ faces is contagious,’ Guffy said. “Serving is an honor, and it’s something I look forward to every year.” This year, 155 volunteers from 25 co-ops across the state joined forces to support the games. Among them were four of Alfalfa Electric’s employees who demonstrated how communities can come together to create meaningful change.
